UNIVERSAL SCIENCE AND ENGINEERING RESEARCH COMPETITION (USERC)
1. PURPOSE OF THIS COMPETITION
The purpose of this competition is to provide students all over the world an opportunity to explore their ideas. The time and effort spent to prepare and submit a research paper in this competition will be a great investment. In addition to getting awards and recognition for such projects, this competition also opens doors for the students to future career opportunities and increase scientific knowledge, thinking skills and speaking skills to compete when they are in the highly competitive job market all over the world.
2) CONCEPT
Science and Engineering research is the backbone of every discovery. Understanding it is critical in bringing your ideas to practical application and future success. Everyone has conflicting viewpoints on the same subject that can make it difficult to determine what is true and what is not. Scientists all around the world clarify the difference in opinion by Research or Scientific method that is important to advance science, engineering and technology.
3. ELIGIBILITY
World Malayalee Council, Washington DC Province’s (“WMC DC”) Universal Science and Engineering Research competition is open to Middle School, High School and College students located all around in the world. Students wishing to submit research paper to this Universal Science and Engineering Research competition must have the signature and contact information of their parent or school teacher for Middle School and High School students. For college students, the project should be attested by a faculty with their contact information.
4) DEADLINE
Deadline to submit the research paper is September 30, 2021.

WMC will send you a confirmation within 7 days of receipt of your entry of its acceptance. Any submission received after September 30, 2021 will not be considered. Program Director, Convener and Coordinator will jointly decide if an entry is acceptable or not. 7) SUBJECT OF RESEARCH PAPER
Entries will be accepted in the following categories:
Biological Science,
Environmental Science,
Medical Science, and
Engineering
Categories:
- College Level (undergraduate level)
- Senior Level (High School) (9 – 12th grade)
- Junior Level (Middle School) (6 – 8th grade)
8) WHAT TO SUBMIT
For Biological, Environmental and Medical Sciences, submit a research paper with a maximum of 6000 words including Background, Materials and Methods, Results and Discussions/Conclusions. For Engineering projects, submit a research paper with a maximum of 6000 words covering application, design and engineering goals.
9) AWARDS:
a) Each participant will receive a certificate of Participation
b) In addition to trophies, winners will also receive the following cash prices:
College level:
- First Prize – $200
- Second Prize – $150
- Third Prize – $100
Senior Level:
- First Prize – $150
- Second Prize – $100
- Third Prize – $50
Junior Level:
- First Prize – $100
- Second Prize – $50
- Third Prize – $25
Award ceremony date will be announced at a later date based on Covid restrictions. If a date is not finalized, awards will be sent to winners’ address by United Postal Service or DHL Courier. Cash prices will be sent by check to the winners in USA, while winners outside the country will receive it via Paypal or bank transfer. WMC will contact the winners once the results are announced to know their preferred method to get the prize money and certificate(s). Any award may be withheld at the discretion of the judges if submission does not have sufficient merit.
10) JUDGING
The projects will be judged by 3 or more judges who are expert in their respective field.
11) YOUR RESEARCH PAPER SHOULD CONTAIN:
The title of your research paper placed in the top center of the page.
Your name, school, and grade should be placed in the top right-hand corner of the page. List the sections of your paper and the page numbers.
Provide a copy of your 6000 words research paper. Your research paper should be neat and legible. Add bibliography if any and acknowledgements for those who guided or helped you with your project, which are NOT included in the 6000 words research paper.
12) ORIGINAL
Your research paper should be original, not published or submitted anywhere else before.
13) LIABILITY
WMC, Washington DC province will not take any liability or responsibility for work submitted by you regarding its originality. We will not distribute or share the work submitted to anyone other than the judging panel and organizers of this event without the prior permission or consent of the participant.
14) WMC, Washington DC has the right to make corrections/addition/deletion in this document as and when required. Please check for updated document in this site before you uload/mail your entry for this competition.
